FYI, I'd like to try "Don't Stop Believing", and Lewis and I talked through the arrangement this morning. On the intro I'll handle the Left hand piano while Lewis tackles the right. Assuming Lew puts together his part of the piano intro duties (and he sounded very confident) I'd like to try DSB as well next Sunday.
To all of you: How much Journey is too much? Scott, I know you expressed a desire to have a mixed and varied set list. Personally, I'd like to shoot for six Journey tunes, but I'm willing to compromise and stop at three of 'em.
Since we're doing a number of Journey tunes already, how much Sam and Dave and Wilson Picket do you guys want to do? On S&D, my favorite is "I Want to Thank You", and on WP my favorite is "Land of 1000 Dances". Since I know we want to avoid doing to much from the same artist I'd like your feedback on which songs from those guys you'd like to do the most.
On Stevie Wonder, I'm inclined to drop I Wish. It's a good tune, but it's just not quite "there" with us, and I think we might have better luck with SSD and Higher Ground.
I think if we were to do every song from Journey, that would be just perfect. On Stevie Wonder, listening to the song there are extensive backing vocals going on in contrast to the main vocals, and it would be impossible to do without at least two vocals other than the lead; I wish never had that 'feel' for me, I can sing it more like Stevie with more practice, but musically there is just so much I hear on the original that is not there in our version. Higher ground has a rock band rearrangement from Red hot chili peppers that would work perfectly for us. On S&D, i like 'I wanna Thank you', I just don't know too much from that era to say if I like others better.
For next Sunday the same.
